Te cuento soy estudiante de Pedagogía en Lengua Castellana, de la Universidad de Los Lagos, Osorno. Hi,
I came across your blog as I was researching Amerindian tribes. I am from Colombia, now living in the UK (My written Spanish is sort of bad), and have recently become more interested in Indigenous culture, especially South American cultures. I think what you are doing is amazing, and to be totally honest, I wish there were more people like you, especially in South America. I have recently been doing some DNA studies and whilst I have found that many South Americans do indeed have some European background, there is an overwhelmingly huge amount of Amerindian dna found throughout the whole continent, with some people possessing more than others. But that is besides the point I am trying to make. The point I am trying to make is that a lot of us in South America have been dominated by Hispanic (mix of Amerindian and Spanish Culture yet Spanish being the dominant language) for so long that it is the primary reason why no one really wants to connect with their roots nor even admit to have indigenous ancestry. I myself am nearly half indigenous, and my cousin who also was tested is more indigenous than European (autosomal testing and mtdna testing at full sequence). I guess when it comes down to it, what you are doing is what a lot of us in South America should be doing, as it makes me sad to know that some languages are becoming extinct. In Colombia, there existed many projects to de-indianise people and force the hispanic culture onto them (many of us are of Chibchan/Muisca/Wayuu and Arawak descent not to mention the dozens and hundreds of tribes linked between my country and other surrounding countries such as Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Brazil and Panama. I hope what you do takes you to awesome places and I hope that these languages can be passed as on as it is important for us descendants to inform and keep these traditions alive no matter where we come from. I read up on the whole Patagonia story of the Ona people and was shocked to find that it is being classed as extinct. Keep up the good work my friend.
